Kimal named a finalist in Chamber Business Awards 2022!

April 11, 2022

  • We’re delighted to announce that we’ve been shortlisted in the Excellence in Sustainability category of the upcoming Chamber Business Awards 2022.

We at Kimal are dedicated to exceeding our customers’ expectations through the delivery of high-quality products. However, as a responsible manufacturer of life-saving medical devices, Kimal is conscious of its environmental impact. Therefore, we’re continually exploring ways to reduce this through our commitment to sustainability.

Kimal’s UK manufacturing site is already ISO4001 accredited however outside of this, the priority for us is understanding our impact on the environment through analysis of established metrics and taking responsibility for that impact.

Examples of successful projects implemented include:

    – Replacement of older, more energy consuming lighting systems with more energy efficient solutions.

    – Investment in more energy-efficient HVAC and hygiene systems for our cleanrooms.

    – Implementation of more efficient business processes impacting the way in which energy is used across our sites.

    – Sourcing from energy providers who deal in renewable energy sources.

These projects have seen us achieve a significant decrease in our energy usage versus total hours worked.

In addition, Kimal has invested in a dedicated Environmental Committee which brings together representatives from across the Company to discuss and mitigate our impact on the environment. Our Research & Development team has also built Environmental Impact Analysis into Kimal’s New Product Development process.

Successful new products include the redesign of our Guidewire Bowl which is used for a number of procedures. The re-designed product has the same fit, form and function as our original Guidewire Bowl however, a 13% reduction in plastic use has been achieved, resulting in over 10 tonnes less plastic entering our supply chain each year. This has allowed us to achieve an overall CO2 reduction of approximately 33 tonnes per year.

Moving forward, Kimal’s commitment to sustainability will continue and whilst our future plans will involve what we can do to reduce our own environmental impact, we will also focus on what our customers’ requirements are for their own sustainability journeys.
